A lot of times we buy kitchen accessories to just get the job done. I really think that having quality kitchen accessories to last will not only help make the kitchen a better place to cook, but will help you treasure the items you have. A lot of waste happens with disposable kitchen accessories, so here are some ways to create a timeless look across any budget. Lets make our open-shelf or countertop objects beautiful so we do not need to go out and buy purely decorative objects.
1. Salt and Pepper Grinders
- CrushGrind ® Stockholm
- Greek Mills
- Peugeot Paris U
- MÄNNKITCHEN Pepper Cannon
- Wood and Leather Salt and Pepper
Salt and Pepper are a staple for any kitchen. Here is a round up of five amazing grinders in both quality and appearance. They are all beautiful for different design styles. 1 is more mid-century modern or simply modern (also this is the one I choose to use on a daily basis in my own kitchen), 2 is more transitional or vintage in style, 3 is for a traditional space or even a juxtaposition with modern or contemporary, and 4 is for the scandinavian or minimalist lover. Though saying that I can see them all working in almost any space hence their timeless nature. Five is great for dinning table or for smaller spaces with an elegant design.
2. Measuring Spoons
Measuring spoons and cups are something that can easily and affordably be upgraded. Beyond the fact that you are buying more sustainable compared to their plastic counterparts, they also dont lose any function for form. I like the silver set linked because they are dishwasher safe and due to the square shape they fit in most standard spice jars. I have seen how useful they are to me and how I get complimented on such a simple attention to detail. Did I go through a few plastic sets that had the numbers rub off or the plastic melt… yes, but hopefully I can save you from the same monetary mistake. Buy it right the first time.
3. Glassware
- Bodega Tall Glass
- Fable Glassware
- Yeild Colored Glass Cups
- Kinto Double Wall Glass
- Aaron Probyn Kanto Cups
Ditch the plastic drink cups unless you have younger children or any sort of outstanding reason to not have glass or ceramic. Glass and ceramic will last far longer and are much prettier. I tend to like a straighter simply glass because it wont be a trend in which you need new glassware every year. Fluted, patterned, colored are fantastic options if you know that they are your long term style. For me textiles, mugs, teacups, serve ware, and the food I eat is where I have tons of bright colors and patterns. For drinking glasses I would highly recommend keeping it to solid colors, clear or tortoise because that will always be timeless. Some things in your kitchen really can last a long time and your water cups can be one of them.
4. Coasters
Coasters are something every household needs, and let me tell you getting a nice one can really change the game. Not only do they last longer but they do a better job at protecting your surfaces. I love the options linked because those that have a rough texture have a layer of cork that wont fall of or get moldy and dirty. I have the middle coasters in my house and I can not speak highly enough about them. I plan to have them for years to come. This is about timeless so I love a neutral coaster that can go from room and room or house to house. Make sure your coasters match your lifestyle, if you have kids skip the travertine, if you spill a lot skip the wood. But please say goodbye to the plastic, the bubbling cardboard, or the mismatched and get a solid set to last.
5. Citrus Squeezer
- Ceramic Juicer
- Metal Hand Juicer
- Glass Citrus Juicer
- Glass Citrus Juicer with Cup
- Stainless Steel Citrus Juicer
Most meals require a little squeeze of lemon or lime. I will say normally I would not recommend throwing something away that works but something about that bright yellow or green lemon hand juicer is not good. If you know what I am talking about, and you own that type of juicer I really think unless you love it to upgrade to a more sophisticated option. I personally use the third option of the glass juicer and I really enjoy it more than the hand squeeze for my personal taste. I linked some different materials in case you have preferences or see benefits in certain ones over others. Regardless all of them can sit out on an open shelf and be useful as opposed to decorative objects. Make you functional things your decorative objects.
6. Oil Dispenser
- Simple Glass Oil Dispenser (just $4!)
- Godinger Oil and Vinegar Dispenser
- SIN FLORA Oil Cruet
- Stainless Steel Oil Cruet
- Total Glass Oil Dispenser
I use some type of oil almost everyday. I have two glass oil dispensers (the first ones from target, super affordable and absolutely practical) one that holds olive oil, and the other for avocado oil. Something to note is it you do not use balsamic vinegar or another type of vinegar often you can fully just put two different oils in the dispenser pair and label the back for a more clean look. I bake a lot so having avocado oil (or any other vegetable oil) is important to have accessible at all times, so why not leave it out in a clean glass bottle that I enjoy using.
