Decorating any space can be challenging and expensive. The key to keeping small spaces beautifully designed is using versatile pieces. Bonus if they are easy to move from apartment to apartment. In my first couple moves I learned what pieces last and look great and which ones were not worth the cost. Here are the best furniture pieces to own in any temporary home!
1. Coffee Table Combo
This table folds up and down to either function as a coffee table or a dining table. If your low on space and dont need a formal dinning area this is perfect for most apartments in that classic shoebox shape. It is easy to see this being a great addition to dinner at the couch or game nights with friends.
2. Couch and a Guest Bedroom
This futon is one of the most functional on the market. It looks like a regular couch in a beautiful graphite velvet fabric and folds down simply and securely. The extra bar when folded down makes it great for couples as opposed to a futon made for one. Adding to this futons design is its continuous cushion on the bottom for a comfortable nights sleep.
3. Substantial Barstools
I own three of these barstools and I highly recommend them. They are easy to clean, comfortable, work with any home style and ring up less than $100 each! They also come in a natural color for those who have a more natural palate.
4. A Large Rug
If you need a rug that you can spill wine on, have multiple pets scratch on, and move from place to place without worry, this is your rug. This one rug has moved with me over 3 times with multiple pets and I still get compliments on it! It is a little thin but adding any simple rug pad makes it the perfect rug for high traffic areas. When working with smaller spaces adding a larger area rug with actually make your space appear bigger and more substantial so I would recommend going with an 8X10 or larger.
5. The Perfect Cart
Every small space needs a well functioning cart. I would highly recommend this one from Ikea for its versatility and price. At less than 10 dollars this cart is perfect as a cleaning caddy or for some extra bathroom storage. This cart can be used endlessly and folds down compactly for future moves.
6. Statement Side Table
If you love sitting at a coffee shop and want to emulate that in your home this table is amazing for its price. If can easily be used a side table next to a couch or a small eating nook both inside and out. Having a cup of tea and a pastry on this side table on any morning is the perfect way to start your day.
7. A Big Mirror
Mirrors can make a smaller space seem bigger than it actually is. This simple round mirror with a low profile comes in a ton of different colors to match most design styles! I personally own one in gold and I can say it is well worth the price for its appearance and quality. In addition its always best to order fragile items from brick and mortar stores in case something breaks in shipping for easier and free returns.
8. Sturdy Bed Frame
I highly recommend this bedframe. It is easy to assemble, has plenty of storage underneath, and looks stylish. Its simple metal legs can hold an impressive weight limit coupled with its built in adhesive to prevent your mattress from sliding. Though the frame is metal is doesn’t squeak and has lasted for many years. It looks best with a fluffed comforter or duvet draped over its sides. I recommend getting a duvet one size bigger than your mattress for the hotel look.
